Soviet KGB Lieutenant Colonel
M1969 daily uniform

M1969 daily uniform of a Lieutenant Colonel of the KGB, the Soviet committee for state security.

The KGB, short for Komitet gosudarstvennoy bezopasnosti, the Committee for State Security, was the main security agency for the Soviet Union from 1954 until 1991. As a direct successor of such preceding agencies as Cheka, NKGB, NKVD and MGB, a committee was attached to the Council of Ministers. It was the chief government agency of "union-republican jurisdiction", acting as internal security, intelligence and secret police. Similar agencies were constituted in each of the republics of the Soviet Union aside from Russia, and consisted of many ministries, state committees and state commissions.

This uniform dates to the 1970s with traces from a ribbon bar. Altough worn, it is in very good condition. The tunic is an gabardine olive, somewhat darker green officers issue with cornflower blue piping and details on shoulder boards. The collar tabs hold the standard armed forces insignia on dark blue backing. The shoulder boards feature two large golden stars each for the rank of lieutenant colonel.

The graduation badge is a law university issue brass badge.

The tunic is a size 50-3, a US40.
