East German NVA Zivilverteidigung
Oberstleutnant Dienstuniform

East German 1970-1980s "Dienstuniform", the daily service unifrom, for a Lieutenant colonel, Oberstleutnant of the East German Civil Defense, the Zivilverteidigung. This uniform was introduced in the 1970s and was worn as daily service uniform with ribbon bar and badges - in this case the Sportabzeichen. There are no traces from Qualispange or any graduation badge. The piping color on this particular tunic is white in combination with dark violet/purple for Zivilverteidigung and the wearers left sleeve has an armband with the text ZIVILVERTEIDIGUNG, a very attractive color combination with the otherwise gray tunic.

The ribbon bar holds a total of 8 awards including all four levels of long service awards, silver and bronze NVA merit medals, the gold level Zivilverteidigung medal and the Verdienstmedaille DDR medal as the highest award. The ribbons, which are made from paper with plastic cover on brass holder, are slightly worn. The shoulder boards are silver with two golden 'pips' each for the rank of lieutenant colonel.

The uniform is in very good condition. The uniform has a total of four silver buttons with edges, as used by the NVA.

The size of the uniform is about size 48 europan with a size 54 visor cap, marked G for 1981. In terms of rarity, the Zivilverteidigung uniforms are more scarce than the army uniforms from the same period.
