Soviet airborne VDV captain
Obr.69 parade uniform

Soviet 1980s parade uniform for a captain of the Soviet airborne troops, the VDV. The uniform is the aviation style per Obr. 69 regulations with awards mounted per post-1980 style, horisontal. The shoulder boards as well as collar tabs and visor cap base has the correct Soviet era sky blue color, and the collar tabs have the VDV airborne/parachute insignia. Each shoulder board carry four small metal stars for the rank of captain, the seniormost junior officer rank.

The uniform holds a one-bar medal setup including the Medal for Guarding the Soviet state border, the 1978 and 1988 medals for 60th and 70th anniversaries of the armed forces and medal for 10 years of irreproachable service and, mounted separately with its screwback device above the medal bar, the medal From the Grateful afghanistan people. On the wearers left is the badge for Parachutist-Instructor with over 500 jumps, the Red Guards badge, the Soldier Internationalist Badge and an 1961 version intermediate officer graduation badge where the lower star has been replaced with a silver parachutist insignia. This is of course not official, but something that likely has been done to replace the lost red enamel star.

The size of the uniform is 48 russian or about 40US. The visor cap is a size 56. The uniform comes with matching dark blue, sky blue piped trousers for wear with shoes. The belt is included with the uniform. Overall, the uniform is in good, worn condition with traces from wear and storage.
