East German Oberleutnant
Luftstreitkräfte der NVA
Gesellschaftsuniform / "Gala"

East German 1970-1980s "galauniform", also known as Gesellschaftsuniform, for a senior lieutenant, Oberleutnant of the Peoples Army Air Force. This uniform was a semi-formal uniform introduced in the 1970s and was worn either with aiguilette and the four highest award or sans the aiguilette with a ribbon bar. The color for the armed forces and the air force was gray-green while the Volkspolizei wore a more mint-green style.

The ribbon bar holds a total of three awards including the Peoples army merit medal, bronze class, Brotherhood in Arms silver class and the 5 years of service medal. On the collar is a pin from the Soviet-GDR Friendship Association. The shoulder boards are silver with three golden 'pips' each for the rank of sernior lieutenant.

The uniform is in good, worn condition and carry an NVA manufacturing stamp within the inner pocket. The uniform has a total of four silver buttons with edge, as used byt the NVA, and theoretically the tunic can be closed both male and female style, although the intention is for male wear. Under the wearers right collar is a button where an aigulette can be attached should the tunic be worn as the Grosser Gesellschaftsanzug (whereas the current setup is the Kleiner Gesellschaftsanzug, lesser gala uniform).

The size of the uniform is about size 46 europan, a fairly small size being officially an east german M44 size.
